Azienda San Michele was founded by Don Giuseppe Cogno, the parish priest of Neive, in 1973 with three other growers. The Cantina Parocco (parish priest's cellar) is comprised of just 14.4 acres with vineyards in the best crus near Barbaresco. Although Don Giuseppe is long gone, the remaining staff, including the priest's brother Dr. Achille Cogno, remain true to the founders' principles of small production and high quality at any cost. Currently, Azienda San Michele makes just 6 wines, all of which are DOC and DOCG level. This Langhe Nebbiolo is made with 100% Neive fruit (most likely declassified Barbaresco Nebbiolo) that's aged for 2-4 years until ready for immediate drinking. Enjoy this now and over the next few years.
Flavor Profile: Medium-bodied, dry. A crowd-pleasing wine from start to finish. Lovely aromas of roses and earth on the nose carry through to meet lots of high-toned, ripe, red berries on the palate. The finish is dry and pleasant with a hint of tar and structured tannins. Pair with pasta and meat sauce, roasted red meats, mushroom dishes, game and cheese fonduta.
