Organic Beef Meatballs with DINE Smoked-Pepper Sauce & Allemandi Penne

This is a strong example of how a recipe can help customers discover several imported grocery products in one meal. DINE Red Pepper with Oak Smoked Garlic Pasta Sauce forms the base, Allemandi organic penne carries the sauce, and BioOrto olive oil and Bart herbs finish the dish. Our fresh organic beef meatballs provide the protein.

Fresh ingredient: Fresh Organic Beef Meatballs, 6-pack

Ingredients

  • 1 pack fresh organic beef meatballs, 6 pieces
  • 300–350g Allemandi organic penne rigatte
  • 1 jar DINE red-pepper and smoked-garlic pasta sauce, 350g
  • 1 tablespoon BioOrto extra virgin olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon Bart mixed herbs
  • 100ml water
  • Grated hard cheese and fresh herbs, optional, to serve

Method

  1. Heat the olive oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat.
  2. Add the meatballs and brown them carefully on all sides for 6–8 minutes.
  3. Pour in the DINE pasta sauce, add 100ml water and sprinkle in the Bart mixed herbs. Stir gently so the meatballs remain intact.
  4. Cover and simmer over low heat for 12–15 minutes, turning the meatballs once, until they are fully cooked through and the sauce has thickened.
  5. Meanwhile, cook the Allemandi organic penne according to the packet instructions until al dente. Reserve a little pasta water, then drain.
  6. Toss the pasta with enough sauce to coat it, adding a splash of pasta water if required. Serve the meatballs on top and spoon over the remaining sauce.
  7. Finish with grated cheese or fresh herbs if desired.

Why these imported ingredients work

The DINE sauce brings red-pepper sweetness and oak-smoked garlic flavour without needing a long sauce preparation. Penne rigatte catches the sauce and small pieces of meatball in its ridges. BioOrto olive oil helps brown the meatballs, while a small amount of Bart mixed herbs rounds out the jarred sauce.

Other ways to use the sauce

The same DINE sauce can be used with grilled chicken, roast vegetables or as a base for baked pasta. For a more traditional tomato profile, try DINE Tomato & Basil Pasta Sauce.

Food-safety note: Beef meatballs should be cooked thoroughly with no pink centre. Refrigerate leftovers promptly and reheat until piping hot.
